Job description:

Sheffield Forgemasters Engineering Limited are looking for an Apprentice Work Rolls Machinist to complete a Level 3 Machining Technician apprenticeship and join their team.

Successful candidates will be trained as highly-skilled machinists (both manual and CNC) producing complex, precision-machined components from large-scale forgings and casting for a range of industries in a heavy engineering context.
Initially candidates will be working regular days (7:45am till 4pm Monday to Friday) but at an appropriate point will be expected to do shift work (timings to be discussed at interview).

Role & responsibilities:

  • Set and run the relevant machine
  • Self-check inspection and parts produced
  • Assist in loading and off-loading parts to machine
  • To always promote Health & Safety in the workplace, displaying excellent personal safety and challenging others when unsafe behaviour is observed
  • All other duties commensurate with the role

Skills required:

  • Excellent attention to detail and precision in work
  • To be a team player and have good communication skills
  • Good problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Good time-management skills
  • Grade 5 GCSE or equivalent in Maths, English & Science

Personal qualities the candidate must have:

  • Flexible and cooperative attitude combined with a strong work ethic
  • Aptitude to develop and gain new skills
  • Capable of working on your own initiative as well as part of a close team

The company specialises in producing large, high-quality steel components that are essential for critical industries such as Defence and Energy. We offer a variety of apprenticeships in Maintenance, Technical, Production and Office Based roles.

Things to consider:

During the first year you will be required to attend the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre in Sheffield, full time for an initial block of study.  You will return to your workplace one Friday per month.  After the initial block training you will attend the AMRC Training Centre for one day a week to undertake the knowledge study. The remaining four days will be spent in company learning on the job.

You will need both of the following:

  • GCSE English language C or 4 or above
  • GCSE Maths C or 4 or above.

Applicants are also required to successfully complete a series of assessments at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre, as well as an employer recruitment and selection process to secure a place on an apprenticeship programme.
