How to apply
Apprenticeship applications for 2025 are now open.
Our recruitment team will support your apprenticeship journey from filling in your application to helping you secure a job and starting your apprenticeship.
If at any point you have any questions about your application, you can contact any member of our recruitment team or email recruitment@amrctraining.co.uk.
See more about our application process below.
How our application process works
The first step to applying is giving us a bit more information about yourself. To do this and get your apprenticeship journey started, you must complete this form.
Please note that this is an introductory step you must take before you can begin your formal application.
You will receive an email from our application portal APTEM shortly after, where you can begin your application.
Please allow up to 3 working days from completing the form on our website to receive the email from Aptem.
Please allow yourself at least 45 minutes to complete this stage.
The next step is to start your formal application through our application portal APTEM. If you aren't quite ready to begin straight away, you will receive an email with information that allows you to start at a later date. Don’t forget to keep your username and password safe.
Once you have completed your form, we will contact you to let you know how you got on. If successful, you will progress to an online assessment.
You will need:
- A copy of your actual or predicted GCSE grades, specifically, English language & English literature and maths GCSEs.
- Proof of rights to work documentation (such as a passport or birth certificate)
- Please note a driving licence is NOT accepted as proof of ID
- You will complete our online colour sight test - some of our pathways require full-colour vision. If the test confirms you do not have full-colour vision we may require you to visit an optician and you may have to consider alternative pathways
If you are looking to apply for higher and degree apprenticeships, in addition to your GCSEs, you need to upload your achieved or predicted relevant level 3 qualifications - entry criteria can be found here.
Helpful tips
- The more information you can provide, the easier it is for us and the employers we work with to try and find you the right role
- Do your research, you can find more information about the apprenticeships we offer on our website.
We require everyone that applies to complete an online assessment. The tests we carry out are relevant to the engineering sector and focus on several key skill areas, these include:
Literacy – assess your strengths and weaknesses in an engineering context
Numeracy – measures your strengths and weaknesses in an engineering context
Spatial Relationships – looks at your ability to visualise two and three-dimensional shapes, which have been rotated, or mirror image
Mechanical Reasoning – looks at your ability to understand basic mechanical principles of motion, direction, and applied forces in an engineering context
Principles of Measurement – assess your ability to understand units and principles of measurement
Problem Solving – measures your ability to understand and solve problems in an engineering context
Understanding Electrical Principles - access your ability to understand electrical and electronic principles of voltage and current
In addition, candidates applying for higher or degree apprenticeships will be required to complete a further higher maths diagnostic test.
Once you have successfully completed your application form and online assessment, a member of our team will invite you to an interview.
The interview will be with a member of the recruitment team and a member of the curriculum team. You will need to be prepared to answer questions about yourself, about your current understanding and knowledge of the engineering apprenticeships you are looking to start and any school or work projects relating to engineering that may support your application and finally a problem-solving question. As part of the interview, degree candidates are asked to prepare and deliver a 2 minute presentation.
If you are successful in completing steps one to four, you can progress to the finding an employer stage. You will need to attend employer interviews and be offered a job before you can start your apprenticeship at the AMRC Training Centre.
Don’t worry, we will help you. What makes us a good choice, is our recruitment team works directly with companies on your behalf. We already have jobs available for our applicants to apply to. You can browse some of our current vacancies here
If you already have a job with a company that would like to support you in undertaking an apprenticeship, please state this on your application form and our recruitment team can help with the rest.
