Job description:

Howmet Aerospace Ltd are looking for a Maintenance Apprentice to complete a level 3 Engineering Technician apprenticeship to join their team. The candidate will be fully trained to repair and install a variety of centrifugal and positive displacement pumps, screens & macerators used on sewage, clean water and general industry sites.

Role & responsibilities:

  • Attend breakdowns and machines issues
  • Devise methods of repair and carry out repairs
  • Ensure job report sheets and other documentation is completed in a timely manner
  • Ensure preventative maintenance systems are completed
  • Read Mechanical and Electrical schematics
  • Display an understanding of Mechanical systems including gears, bearings, pneumatics and hydraulics
  • Display a basic understanding of Electrical systems, with competency in safe isolation and minor repairs

Things to consider:

During the first year you will be required to attend the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre in Sheffield, full time for an initial block of study.  You will return to your workplace one Friday per month.  After the initial block training you will attend the AMRC Training Centre for one day a week to undertake the knowledge study. The remaining four days will be spent in company learning on the job.

Qualification Requirements:

Advanced Apprenticeships entry requirements

You will need both of the following:

  • GCSE English language C or 4 or above
  • GCSE Maths C or 4 or above.

Applicants are also required to successfully complete a series of assessments at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre, as well as an employer recruitment and selection process to secure a place on an apprenticeship programme.
