Gen-fab Limited are looking for a Welder Fabricator Apprentice to complete a level 3 metal fabricator apprenticeship to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity to join this long-established engineering business. The candidate will join the team in a multi-disciplined role to learn, practice and develop a diverse range of engineering skill sets involved with metal working, fabrication and welding. Other disciplines will include laser cutting, drilling and machining.

Additional training for fabrication and welding practices will be offered during the apprenticeship programme.

Role & responsibilities:

Responsible to the Director, the duties and metal working processes range from:

  • Marking out and measurement
  • Cutting products to size
  • Drilling
  • Finishing
  • Lathe operation
  • Welding practices:
    • Gas
    • Mig & Tig
    • Manual Metal Arc

Carry out housekeeping duties to include:

  • Updating workshop files
  • Maintain cleanliness of work areas
  • Assist with the responsibility to achieve a safe working environment
  • Conform to health and safety regulations
  • Promote own learning and development

Expert mentoring will be given throughout

Skills required:

  • Punctuality, attendance, time management

Things to consider:

During the first year you will be required to attend the University of Sheffield AMRC Training Centre in Sheffield, full time for an initial block of study.  You will return to your workplace one Friday per month.  After the initial block training you will attend the AMRC Training Centre for one day a week to undertake the knowledge study. The remaining four days will be spent in company learning on the job.

Qualification Requirements:

Advanced Apprenticeships entry requirements

You will need both of the following:

  • GCSE English language C or 4 or above
  • GCSE Maths C or 4 or above.

Applicants are also required to successfully complete a series of assessments at the University of Sheffield’s AMRC Training Centre, as well as an employer recruitment and selection process to secure a place on an apprenticeship programme.
